Cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy may cause changes to the mouth, throat and teeth. Patients undertaking chemotherapy and radiotherapy must take extra care and pay attention to their oral health, to keep the mouth healthy, comfortable and reduce the risk of problems after treatment.
Good oral health should be achieved before the start of treatment therefore, an appointment with the dentist is strongly recommended prior to commencing chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

Dental hygiene care should ideally start before you plan to become pregnant, so that any decay or other dental problems can be treated before. Regular dental maintenance and examinations should continue throughout the pregnancy to help maintain your oral health at its best.
Be sure to tell us at Dentistry on Unley that you are pregnant, so that some treatments can be avoided e.g. fluoride and radiographs.
